Event Descriptions Public Speaking
- Contestants will draw random topics and select one on which to prepare
a 3-7 minute impromptu speech. Time elapsed will be posted during the
speech so that contestants are aware of timing. Speakers who finish before
three minutes have elapsed, or who run past seven minutes, will be penalized
1 point for each second over/under.Following the speech, time will be
allowed for questions from the judges.
Sales Talk
- The Sales Talk competition uses a live setting complete with
animal or a photo (no larger than 8x10) and potential buyers. The purpose
of this contest is to evaluate the effectiveness of the presentation and
the contestant’s ability to merchandise cattle. Contestants may
use any entry or photo of a SimGenetics animal as the subject of the Sales
Talk. A contestant’s score will be reduced 10% if additional materials
are presented to the judges other than those listed in the above rules.
Cattleman's
Quiz - The
Cattleman's Quiz is designed to test the contestant's knowledge of the
beef industry and the information contained within the ASA Sire Summary.
The test is typically 50 age appropriate multiple choice questions.
Judging/Oral
Reasons - The puprose of the Judging contest is to improve
the cattle selection skills of the Juniors. The cattle in the contest
are typically Simmental or SimGenetics and are brought in by local Simmental
breeders. Skill-A-Thon
- The purpose of the Skill-a-thon contest is to assess practical skills
related to the beef industry and Simmental/Simbrah cattle. The contest
may include a visual identification via photographs or PowerPoint, identification
of the actual subject or a combination of the two. Contestants may not
bring notes, books or reference materials into testing area. Attire: Casual
